Backgrounder - NZ Olive Oil
Olive growing is new to New Zealand.
However, New Zealanders are innovative in their horticultural endeavours, combining the best of old world knowledge with new world experimentation.
The results, as evidenced in our wine industry, are world class.
Now the same can be said of the Olive Oil industry. NZ Olive Oils are winning awards all over the world and competing against countries who have been producing oils for hundreds of years.
So what is the recipe for success? New Zealand has some of the best olive growing conditions in the world. The pleasant mix of cool winds, warm sunshine, clean air and seasonal rain ensures the perfect olive crops.
Unlike traditional growing countries, New Zealand does not have the temperature extremes found in these areas so olive trees grow and flourish year round.
Nelson in particular has some of the best soils and climate in the already recognised excellent olive growing nation of New Zealand.
The growing success of Nelson Olives Ltd is due to our company layout. Our growers are our shareholders and we all share the same vision; 'create the very finest in Extra Virgin Olive Oils'.
Our growers contribute diverse skills. Our groves have a range of varieties, and the trees grow on a spectrum of terroirs, all of which allow us to produce quality oil from year to year.

ōriwa Extra Virgin Olive Oil is mechanically extracted without the use of heat or chemicals, and within 24 hours of harvest.
